People

Prof. Matt Ginder-Vogel is an assistant professor in the Environmental Chemistry and Technology program at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Prior to joining the Madison faculty, Dr. Ginder-Vogel was the manager of process and analytical chemistry at Calera Corporation. At Calera he led teams responsible for production of cemetitious materials derived from industrial CO2 sources. Previously he worked at the Delaware Environmental Institute at the University of Delaware. He received his Ph.D. in soil and environmental biogeochemistry from Stanford University.

Graduate Students

Jacqueline Mejia is doctoral candidate in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group. Prior to her arrival at UW Madison she received a B.S. in Chemistry from Temple University.

Noah Stern is doctoral candidate in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group. Prior to his arrival at UW Madison he received a M.S. in Applied Environmental Geology from the University of Tuebingen.

Sarah Balgooyen is a doctoral candidate in the Environmental Biogeochemistry and Aquatic Chemistry groups in the Environmental Chemistry and Technology Program. Prior to arriving at UW Madison, Sarah received a B.S. in chemistry from Michigan State University.

Marissa Kneer is a graduate student in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group in the Environmental Chemistry and Technology Program. Prior to arriving at UW Madison, Marissa received a B.S. in chemistry from Taylor University.

Maddie Mathews is a graduate student in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group in the Environmental Chemistry and Technology Program. Prior to arriving at UW Madison, Maddie received a B.S. in chemistry from Point Loma Nazarene University.

Bharat Natarajan is a graduate student in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group and is completing his M.S. in Geological and Environmental Engineering Program at UW Madison. Bharat completed his B.S. in Geological Engineering at UW Madison.

Sarah Bessey is a graduate student in the Environmental Biogeochemistry and Hydroecology groups in the Nelson Environmental Institute. Prior to arriving at UW Madison, Sarah received a B.A. in Environmental Sciences from Wesleyan University.

Emma Leverich is a graduate student in the Environmental Biogeochemistry and Aquatic Chemistry groups in the Environmental Chemistry and Technology Program. Prior to arriving at UW Madison, Emma received a B.A. in chemistry from Grinnell College.

Lily Schacht is a graduate student in the Environmental Biogeochemistry and group in the Environmental Engineering Program. Prior to arriving at UW Madison, Lily received a B.S. in Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering from Washington University.

Former Group Members

Elizabeth Tomaszewski was postdoctoral research in the in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group. She completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry and Technology from UW Madison in 2017. Prior to her arrival at UW Madison she received a B.S. in Chemistry from Georgia Tech. Dr. Tomaszewski is currently a postdoctoral research in Dr. Andreas Kappler's group at the University of Tübigen.

Jiannan (Nicolas) Chen, Ph.D.
Jiannan Chen was a postdoc researcher in the Environmental Biogeochemistry group from 2016 to 2017. He received his PhD degree in Geological Engineering at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015. He is currently a professor of GeoScience and Environmental Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University.
